Natural Products from Marine Fungi for the treatment of cancer

The MarineFungi consortium demonstrated the sustainable exploitation of marine natural resources providing appropriate culture conditions. New anti cancer compounds are now  characterised to the stage of in vivo proof of concept ready to enter further drug development. Read more about our approach and background by choosing the approriate section in the pull down menue on top of the page.

We developed the technological basis for a sustainable use of marine microbial products along the added-value chain from the marine habitat to the drug candidate and process concept. Find our publications.

The project MARINE FUNGI was from May 2011-April 2014. The consortium continues the work and will use this site to share results and insights and the development of marine biotechnology. See our partners in the PARTNER menue.

First compounds successfully tested in preliminary panel

A set of fungal metabolites was tested in the preliminary panel of cancer cell lines. This preliminary panel consists of relevant and common cancer types and gives the first hints for interesting bioactivities of the new compounds identified in MARINE FUNGI. These "hits" within this panel enter the "full panel" consisting of 40 different cancer cell lines.

New samples from Chilean endemic algae

Timely, new samples arrived for the isolatation of novel fungal strains. University of Antofagasta collected a new set of endemic macroalagae for microbial analyses.

YOUMARES 3.0

YOUMARES 3.0 takes place from 12.-14. September 2012 in Lübeck, Germany

YOUMARES is the name for the international conference of young marine researchers and engineers organized by the study group of the German Society for Marine Research (DGM). This event addresses all young marine scientists and engineers from all disciplines of fundamental and applied research, industry and other relevant fields coming from Germany and the rest of the world.
